Greasy scalp

“Shampoo for oily hair” – not quite accurate.
Hair itself doesn't produce oil. Sebum is secreted by sebaceous glands located beneath the scalp skin.

Causes of an oily scalp:
• Improper hair care habits
• Stress
• Diet
• Digestive system issues
• Hormonal imbalance

Improper care is the most common cause.
Frequent use of heavy styling products, trying to “train” the scalp by washing it less often, and using shampoos that don’t cleanse well enough.

For example, a gentle sulfate-free shampoo might not cleanse an oily scalp or root area effectively — or at all.

Very mild shampoos are often used by people with dry hair lengths. This is a mistake, as shampoo should be chosen based on your scalp type, while conditioner, mask, etc., should match the condition of the hair lengths.

So, what shampoo should you use for an oily scalp?
Choose shampoos labeled “for oily hair” that contain stronger cleansing sulfates. Then, select masks, conditioners, and other care products based on your hair length — but avoid applying them near the roots! This way, they will nourish and repair the hair shaft without touching the scalp or causing extra greasiness.
